The Important Benefits of Insulation

By investing in proper home insulation for a new construction home, you can ensure the home receives multiple benefits throughout the entirety of the year. At Villa Custom Homes, we use open-cell spray foam for our ceiling insulation, which is applied to the roof decking, ensuring the ductwork is now in air-conditioned space, thus reducing energy costs. We spray a minimum of 10″ of ceiling insulation foam. We also use a bib system and blow walls in conventional construction to R-22 as a minimum.

Our home builders caulk and seal all sill plates and foam a gasket around all exterior openings, windows, and doors. We offer room sound insulation as well as garage insulation. Read below for some benefits of having your home properly insulated by a trusted Las Cruces home builder.

  • A Greener Impact- Not only is making your new construction home energy-efficient beneficial for the environment, but it is also better for your home. Homes that are properly insulated have lower energy bills and, thus, a smaller carbon footprint. Our Las Cruces home builders strive to make homes greener and more environmentally friendly so make sure you give us a call to hear about how we can help.

  • Less Outside Noise- Insulation can absorb sound better and will make your home a more relaxing place. Whether your kids like to play loudly or your neighbors like to mow their lawns early in the morning, insulation can help minimize the noise.

  • Reduce Energy Bills- If your home is poorly insulated, you’ll end up spending more on your heating and cooling bills than you should. Not only will it raise your energy bill, but it will also cause more wear and tear on your HVAC unit. An expert home builder will make sure everything is properly insulated and sealed before moving in.

  • More Comfortable- Proper insulation will keep your home cool in the summer and nice and warm in the winter. As mentioned above, you’ll be working your HVAC unit to its end if your home isn’t insulated; you’ll have to crank the heat or AC in order to feel slightly comfortable.

The Benefits of Rammed Earth Construction

Homes built with rammed earth walls possess many benefits. Rammed earth homes are more energy efficient because the walls are 18″ thick and have an enormous thermal mass, which retains heating or cooling and then releases it as thermal properties change during the day/night.  Some of these benefits include:

  1. Thermal Mass: Rammed earth walls have a high thermal mass, which means they can absorb and store heat effectively. During the day, when the temperature rises, the walls absorb heat, helping to keep the interior of the building cool. Conversely, during the night, when temperatures drop, the walls release stored heat, helping to keep the interior warm. This moderating effect can reduce the amount of BTUs needed for heating and cooling systems, thereby saving money on initial equipment costs and long-term operation costs.

  1. Insulation: The thickness and density of the rammed earth walls contribute to their insulating properties, helping to regulate indoor temperatures and reduce the transfer of heat between the interior and exterior environments.

  1. Thermal Conductivity: Rammed earth walls have relatively low thermal conductivity, meaning they are not quick to transfer heat. This property helps to maintain a more stable indoor temperature by slowing down the movement of heat through the walls.

  1. Breathability: Rammed earth walls are breathable, allowing moisture to move through them. This can help regulate humidity levels indoors and prevent the buildup of moisture, which can contribute to mold and mildew growth.

  1. Sustainability: From a sustainability perspective, rammed earth walls are advantageous because they are made from natural materials, typically a mixture of soil, gravel, sand, and sometimes stabilizers like lime or cement. This reduces the environmental impact associated with the production and transportation of building materials.
